JaNa GaNa Mana

Even though I am not Indian but I like their National Anthem. It has something strong in it that attracts me to listen to it.
I don't understand a word from it but out of the blue I just felt like listening to it today morning. Reminds me when I studied in Carmel School for 6 years. I guess today is a day for childhood memories!

A trivia on India's National Anthem;

The 'Sindh' in the line Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maharashtra.... is present day Pakistan! :D

Translation into English:

O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, the Maratha country,
in the Dravida country, Utkala (Orissa) and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
it mingles in the rhapsodies of the pure waters of Jamuna and the Ganges.
They chant only thy name.
They sing only the glory of thy victory.
They seek only thy auspicious blessings.
The salvation of all people waits in thy hands,
O dispenser of India's destiny!
Victory, Victory, Victory, Victory to thee.

Funny thing is even most Indians are not able to recite it from start to finish.
If you liked it so much I'm sure you're gonna like listening to A. R Rehman's rendition of Vandematram.
In mainland India people are split down the middle on whether or not it is a good idea to have it played at the movies before start of each show. What do you think?
The worst part is when someone's reclined a full 180 degrees in their recliner seats and the national anthem starts to play without any kind of advance notice : it makes for a most comic timing and is fun watching a prostrate person struggle on to his feet for the national anthem.
It is do-able in the Kuwaiti context also but my only worry is people here, might start to clap once the anthem is over.

For many juveniles navy girl included,the notion that Kuwait is culturally, socially and economically (and on many more fronts) closer to India than say, to the Lebanon or Jordan goes beyond the pale and is much too much for them to handle.
I think plain ignorance seasoned with a modicum of provincialism more than anything else contributes to such a mentality.
We feel sorry for their skewed pattern of thinking and wish them plentiful well informed insights into the entity, which is India.
