London From My Eye

It's been one roller coaster week. From meeting sweetest F to a new friend Y, from eating my typical college days food to visiting some great site seeing places, from beautiful weather to living each moment of my 7 days. It was a vacation I long wanted and I finally got it. Lets say its the best vacation I had in the last 8 years. Life was so natural and normal. I am taking memories that will long be remembered. I will be flying back tonight even though I had a great time here I still miss my bed.

No VAT When Shopping

For the past few days since I am in London I have been noticing that most of my receipts don't have the VAT mentioned on them. Some places even have a sign saying they won't be charging VAT which I never bothered to read.

Something that I have been monitoring here from the first day is that I haven't seen that much tourist like before. Speaking to a few business man here some say that their business have been effected badly the others say they are still in better hands if not the best.

Yesterday while shopping around the lady at Selfridges mentioned that "Sir, the price is without VAT". I was quite surprised so I asked her the reason behind it. She said with the present economy crises the Tax department in UK have decided not to charge any more tax as of 1 December 2008 till further notice to give some boost to the business. She also mentioned that the prices will be increasing as of 1st March 2009. I don't know how much true is that but I think if anyone of you is visiting UK now its a good time to shop. They have some great deals on products.

UPDATE: I was informed wrong!!!!!@@!!!!! I went to purchase a wallet from Mont Blanc today and the salesman there informed me that no one can do that and we still have to collect the VAT from the airport. The only difference is that it has been reduced from 17.5% to 15%.

Day 3 - London

It was a long and tiring day (in a good way). 8:30am in the morning I was at Madame Tussauds. It took me 2 hours to finish from there before I headed towards The London Eye and then The London Dungeon. Each place takes nearly 2 - 3 hours to visit. The weather was sunny with light cold and clear sky. It was just perfect to walk and visit all the three places. I really had a great time but by evening I was tired of walking so came back home and slept. That is typical me to sleep at 9PM :) Here are the pics to share with all of you. I could take any pic at The London Dungeon as it was really dark inside which made me sick by the end.

You can click HERE to check the pics on my Flick account.

Note: I will be deleting the pics from the account after 2 days.

Day 2 - London

All I did was walking for nearly 4 hours and site seeing Baker Street, Edgware Road, London Eye, Big Ban, House of Parliment, The National Gallery, Leicester Square, China Town, Hyde Park.... I met F at Paddington station and she was my tour guide to show me around. Even though I have seen all these places before I felt as if I was visiting them for the first time.

Coming from an IT and Marketing background one of the things I really love here are their advertisements. You see all kinds of advertisements on the streets from awarness campaigns to promoting a product. Something new I have noticed this time are the new projectors they have installed at some of the undergrounds and the tv screens replacing the posters while walking up the escalators on the under ground tube stations.

Today I will be visiting London Dungeon, The London Eye and Madame Tussauds. From what I have heard visiting these 3 places will take all of my day. I have been to Madame Tussauds before 10 years so it will be something new for me this time. I am excited about it and will be posting more pics soon.

College Days Favorites

I went to Tesco today to pick up few water bottles and other items that I needed. While walking and looking at different items that were placed on the shelves I started recalling my college days and that's when I decided to pick up all the items that I used to like at that time. I couldn't find all the items but the 3 items I found were chocolates, Lucozade (energy drink) and Jaffa cakes (the yummiest small cakes I have ever had).

Day 1 - London @ EasyHotel

My flight arrived 30 minutes early at Heathrow Terminal 5. I would say this is the best terminal of all their other terminals. The immigration office was right next to the gate and in 5 minutes I was at the baggage claim. It took around 30 minutes till my bag arrived. I took Heathrow Express direct for London Padington and was there 30 minutes later.

I read about easyHotel on Mark's blog a while back and as I like adventure I decided to book on it. I had in my mind as the hotel is really cheap in room cost it wont be a nice and clean one and if it doesn't meets my expectations I had a second plan that I will move to Hilton Padington. But I was wrong the hotel is beyond my expectation for its price. It extremely clean and 2 minutes walk from the station. I have a double bed single room with a window. Nice and friendly staff and they have all the information available if you would like to do some site seeing. The only annoying part in this hotel is that any extra service costs money like room cleaning is £10, fresh towels £1, checkout after 10am £15, £5 to watch TV for 24 hours and many others. I really don't mind for the price I payed to stay in this hotel but it would be good if they had different packages available at the time of booking. I just got a one week internet connection for £20.

I went to watch Seven Pounds last night. The movie is a good time pass but it feels different to watch an uncensored movie after a while. I was really tired after watching the movie and came back to the hotel and slept.

Travelling to London

I will be travelling to London next week to have a short break and meet friends. BA had an amazing offer and I didnt want to miss that so I booked a short trip. I will be leaving on saturday for a week.

I am really looking forward to this short break and visiting few new places and friends I havent seen in sometime. I hope it will give me a change from my busy and hectic life and I can come back all fresh and looking forward to another hard working year fighting the present financial crises.

Another big reason is that I just love Londonnnnn. I know that sounds typical and even though I never really do all that shopping that most of my female readers would love to do. But I just like to walk down river Thames, have a hot chocolate in one of the cafes, take a ride on double decker bus, watch aged couples holding hands and walking on the streets and visit my college. Its alot more than that which I will capture in my Nikon camera and bring it for you.

Till then take care and have a safe week.

A Dream Deferred

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

3 WeekS & MorE TilL WheN

Its been 3 weeks since the attacks on Gaza started. I haven't been watching it closely but every morning when I hold one of the 5 newspapers that arrive in my office and my eye spots one of the bodies of the innocent kid who have died or a mother crying in front of her 5 sons as a result of this barbaric attack.

My body shivers...

I pray for them......

And ask GOD for help as the world leaders are too careless!

Update on Health...

Dear Bloggers,

First of all thanks to all of you who sent me msgs, emails and all the comments I got from you with all the support and prayers.

The cause of bleeding is still not known and the test results are good with no sign of any infection. Though the doctors have asked me not to worry as I have more RBC's in my urine. Which is scary for me but normal according to them. I will be doing another test on Saturday and if the results come out good then I am all fit and fine.

Take care,

Amer
